4D Ajax Framework v11 Release 2 (11.2): What's New

Improved iPhone Support

4D Ajax Framework v11 Release 2 adds the much-requested ability to enter and edit data on the iPhone (and subsequently, iPod Touch).

This includes support for offline data entry using HTML 5. Once logged into the iPhone client, a “Settings” option allows the user to toggle “Offline Mode” on and off.  The offline mode allows users not connected to the internet to enter data, then upload to the server as soon as a connection is available.

4D Ajax Framework v11 Release 2 also introduces a logout function for the iPhone.

Offine Support with Google Gears and HTML 5

Set your 4D Ajax Framework web application to offline mode, and you can save your records locally, make modifications, and upload them to 4D at a later time.

Web browsers compatible with HTML 5 or that have Google Gears installed support Offline Mode.  Safari 3 and Firefox 3 support HTML 5. Users of Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2+ must install Google Gears to use offline mode.

Adobe AIR Support

The 4DAF Client and 4DAF framework objects are now compatible with Adobe AIR.  Whether you wish to use the entire, pre-fab Ajax front-end provided by the 4DAF Client, or if you’d rather pick and choose your own 4DAF objects (e.g. the Data Grid), they are now available to Adobe AIR applications.

Adobe AIR (Adobe Internet Runtime) allows Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) to be deployed as standalone desktop applications. This gives the apps unlimited local storage and file system access, as well as the ability work offline.

This is made possible by using 4D Ajax Framework’s new Bridge to communicate with the 4D back-end.

Bridge 2.0

The new Bridge handles data between 4D on the back end and your 4DAF objects on the front-end. Its job is to send requests to 4D, receive and parse XML responses, maintain meta-data, and manage sessions and user information.

Its functionality covers everything from login/logout, to localization, to record manipulation, to data access, to file linking and dependencies.

Most Bridge functions are supported on the iPhone - in fact, Bridge 2.0 allows you to build 100% customized applications for browsers or for the iPhone!

Updated Browser Support

4D Ajax Framework v11 Release 2 (11.2) now supports Mozilla’s Firefox 3 browser.

Wildcard Searches

4DAF 11.2 introduces wildcard support for searching

4DAF Admin Client 11.2

The 4D-based admin client application has been updated to support 4D v11 Release 2 (11.2).
